PWS-2000

PWS-2000 Industrial Portable Rugged (MilGrade)...

On land, at sea or in the air, the PWS-2000™ is your reliable, rugged companion when you need computing power in places where other systems cannot go. The PWS-2000™ , has been carefully designed and constructed to meet an extensive set of electrical and mechanical specifications that lets it perform in virtually any environment.

DESCRIPTION:

The PWS-2000™ system is comprised of 3 major components; Main Console, Detachable Display Unit and Detachable Keyboard Unit. The Keyboard serves as front protection when the system is being transported.

The very rugged station is protect by an almost indistructable aluminum harness with a hardcoat anodized finish. An additional EMI (electromagnetic interfer- ence) protection layer ensures system integrity by shielding it from ground loops, common impedance paths, direct magnetic/electric field coupling, electro- static discharge (ESD), power line conducted emissions or other radiated emissions.

The PWS-2000™ can be used as a normal desktop system or easily be mounted in a rack or vehicle.

Hardcoated Anodized Aluminum Exterior
Hardcoat anodizing (also known as hard anodizing or hardcoating) de- scribes the formation of anodic coatings whose physical characteristics include high wear resistance and hardness.

These oxides are commonly referred to in industry as hardcoats or Type III coatings and are differentiated from sulfuric or Type II oxides by their physical characteristics, formation method, and areas of application.

Hardcoats are typically thicker than normal sulfuric anodized coatings ( >25 µm) and are produced at lower temperatures and higher current densities than sulfuric anodize coatings.

Hard anodic coatings are used in the aerospace, military, automotive, ordnance, avionics, industrial, and commercial industries where a hard durable surface is needed to extend material longevity. Applications of hardcoating on parts such as Pistons, cylinders, cams, gears, splines, swivel joints, and hydraulics speak for themselves.

Main Console
A big advantage of the PWS-2000™ ’s Main Console design is that all card interfaces and slots are located at the right side. This allows the system to be positioned and operated in both horizontal- and vertical position while still providing full access to card interface connectors and wiring.

The unit, with its 4 large high durometer value rubber corner bumpers, may be safely positioned on any sur- faces. A specially designed cutout mounting rail extends around the chassis. The cut-out rail provides for attachment of external devices and enables secure mounting of the chassis (for example : under a dash board, in a cabinet, in an equipment rack, or on the wall).

Power Supply&Drive Assembly
The removable power and drive bay assembly consists of an aluminium cover with frame mounted to the lower rear of the main chassis. Removing the assembly gives full access to the interior as well as easy and full access to power supply and drive bays. For mobile applications DC-to-DC power supplies are available up to 300 Watt. The optional ATX passive backplanes can be powered by an ATX (AC/DC) power supplies ranging from 150 to 250 Watt. The are two type of assemblies available :
- one standard 5¼" drive and two 3½" drives vertically positioned.
- one slim (notebook) CDROM drive and two 3½" drives, horizontally positioned.
In between frame and drive(s), shock and vibration absorbing rubber media is standard installed. The rubber media provides a proven vibration and shock absorbing mounting environment to improve dynamic operating stability of the drive under harsh conditions.

The EMI/RF Protection Layer
For EMI shielding requirements, a electrical conductive layer is added (both inside and outside) to the hardcoated aluminum chassis and its parts. This coating provides the chassis with a electrical conductive shield. Its standard resistivity level of 0.2 ohms/square inch enables the chassis to provide the necessary EMI attenuation to easily pass FCC and CE requirements.

10.4 or 12.1 Display Unit
The detachable Display Unit that facilitates 10.4" and 12.1" TFT LCD panels is an all-aluminium structure located at the front of the Main Console and attached to the inner walls of the Console by means of dual Display Swing Arm Assembly. The Display Unit may be manually positioned and set to rest at any desired viewing position with the Main Console remaining in either horizontal or a vertical operating position.

LVDS for optimal Display Stabillity
Low Voltage Differential Signalling is normally associated with applications where display and host are connected over distances of up to 10 meters. However its low noise emittance and its virtual noise immunity make LVDS excellently suited to be used there where connection of display and system can be subject to high noise levels. For this reason all our display solutions standard provide for LVDS circuitry resulting in a very stable and clear picture even in the harshest environments.

Keyboard with Trackball
The detachable keyboard unit is an all-aluminium assembly compris- ing of 105-keys with alternated standard keys layout. The keyboard is available either with or without integrated rugged trackball device. A special feature of the keyboard is that it is designed to be attached to the main console to protect the display when transporting the unit. The stands on the bottom side of the keyboard function in the closed position as locking arms. There is no need for any latches or screws.
